I’ve always believed the best stories are the ones that stay with you long after the last page.
Welcome, my name is Andrew Ronald Hurst, though I’ve always preferred to be known as Ande. I write under the pen name A. R. Hurst. Born and raised in Liverpool, England, I studied English Language and Media Studies at Bangor University in North Wales.

I began teaching English in 2018—a career that gave me immense pride, particularly in the successes of my students—but eventually, I decided to chase the stories I’d been jotting down for years.
Writing has been part of me since childhood, when I would create strange realms full of unusual characters and dynamics. Horror is at the heart of much of my work, but I also explore crime, psychological drama, coming-of-age stories, and historical fiction. My first novel, A Legacy in Loneliness, was published in March 2025, inspired by my partner’s constant question after every chapter: “So what happens next?”
One of my current projects is the Evelyn Carter series, a trilogy of crime novels centred on a detective drawn into increasingly dark and personal cases. The first book, Silence in the Shadows, is already published.
Outside of writing, I play guitar, enjoy tennis, and have a passion for role-playing games like Fallout and The Outer Worlds—so much so that I once ran a blog reviewing the games I played. My literary inspirations include Stephen King, George R. R. Martin, Tolkien, J. K. Rowling, Charles Dickens, and John Steinbeck.
Alongside my writing, I provide proofreading services for students across disciplines, helping them refine their writing skills both academically and professionally. My goal as an author is simple: to craft stories that stay with readers long after the final page.
